Dust Sprites Coaster

Dust sprites — tiny, whimsical creatures from Studio Ghibli films — are soft, soot-like beings with gentle, curious personalities. Often seen drifting through dim corners or abandoned rooms, they embody the quiet magic of overlooked places. Despite their small size, they carry a sense of resilience and innocence: drawn to warmth, light, and simple companionship, they flit about like living whispers of the house itself. Visually charming with their round, fuzzy forms and bright, expressive eyes, dust sprites evoke both nostalgia and tenderness, reminding us to notice the small, mysterious lives that animate the world’s hidden spaces.

4'“x4” single coaster

The coasters are made of neoprene, with a polyester layer and natural rubber base, which can firmly grip the desktop and prevent slipping. The soft material gives you a smooth and comfortable touch.

Because I personally sublimit each coaster, there will be differences in color vibrancy and application. This is the nature of doing it by hand.

The coasters are machine washable. It is not recommended to put them in the dryer.

My process:

I use Sublimation paper for my designs. I will cut out the design using my Cricut machine from art or text I have created or purchased. I then use my Heat Press machine to move the ink to the neoprene coaster.

This process is permanent. The ink becomes part of the coaster’s surface, and won’t wear of for a very long time.

Sublimation is when a solid turns directly into a gas without becoming liquid. This happens when the solid's molecules gain enough energy to break free, usually through heat or lower pressure. As the temperature rises, the molecules move faster. When the solid gains enough energy, its molecules escape into the air as gas.
