Soot Sprites Coaster

$5.00

Tiny, whimsical creatures born from dust and imagination, soot sprites (also called susuwatari) are the soft, round sprites that scurry through Studio Ghibli’s most tender and mysterious worlds. Dark and fuzzy with bright, curious eyes, they embody both the quiet magic of neglected places and the gentle wonder of childhood discovery. Often seen drifting across floors, clinging to rafters, or tumbling from abandoned corners, soot sprites move with playful energy and a shy intelligence, reacting to kindness and retreating from harshness. They’re symbols of small, overlooked life—reminding us that even the humblest corners can hold spirit and story. Whether clustering in a forgotten attic or hitching a ride on a young heroine’s journey, soot sprites invite viewers to notice the tiny miracles tucked into everyday spaces.

4'“x4” single coaster

The coasters are made of neoprene, with a polyester layer and natural rubber base, which can firmly grip the desktop and prevent slipping. The soft material gives you a smooth and comfortable touch.

Because I personally sublimit each coaster, there will be differences in color vibrancy and application. This is the nature of doing it by hand.

The coasters are machine washable. It is not recommended to put them in the dryer.

My process:

I use Sublimation paper for my designs. I will cut out the design using my Cricut machine from art or text I have created or purchased. I then use my Heat Press machine to move the ink to the neoprene coaster.

This process is permanent. The ink becomes part of the coaster’s surface, and won’t wear of for a very long time.

Sublimation is when a solid turns directly into a gas without becoming liquid. This happens when the solid's molecules gain enough energy to break free, usually through heat or lower pressure. As the temperature rises, the molecules move faster. When the solid gains enough energy, its molecules escape into the air as gas.
